Heidi Montag Addicted to Plastic Surgery
January 20, 2010 | Leave a Comment
Heidi Montag is the 23 year-old star in the reality TV show “The Hills”. Not surprisingly, her looks have been altered a fair bit over the past few years. Heidi Montag admitted in an interview with “People” magazine that she is addicted to plastic surgery. She claimed she had ten cosmetic surgery procedures performed on her in one day during November 2009. Although a lot of the work has been gradual and well-performed, her chest does look obviously fake and artificial.
In the People magazine article, Heidi Montag revealed that her plastic surgeries have included a nose job, chin reduction, botox injections in her forehead, neck liposuction, ear pinning, a mini brow lift, fat injections in her cheeks, lip collagen injections, liposuction on her waist, hips, and inner and outer thighs, buttock augmentation and breast enlargement surgery. You name it, she’s done it! Heidi Montag’s obsession with plastic surgery has placed her in danger of serious health complications or even death, as plastic surgery procedures can cause both.
According to “People”, Heidi Montag did not even tell her family about her plans to undergo so many plastic surgery procedures. She seems truly obsessed with plastic surgery and there will come a point where too much cosmetic surgery will make her look awful and it may even leave her scarred.

Miss Universe Venezuela and Scalpel Tourism
December 30, 2009 | Leave a Comment
In 2009, the transferring of the Miss Universe crown from one Venezuelan to another, from 2008 winner Dayana Mendoza to Stefania Fernandez, caused a sensation in the world of beauty pageants. It was the sixth time Venezuela had won the Miss Universe crown in the 59-year history of the pageant. It was also the first occasion that the same country had claimed the title twice in a row.
Venezuela’s afterglow from winning yet another Miss Universe crown has definitely spurred its women to the more widespread application of cosmetic surgery. Surgical enhancement of the body has become such a norm in Venezuela these days that it has emerged as a top destination for “scalpel tourism” by foreigners looking for a lift or new contours at relatively cheaper prices.
“There are patients who come from Colombia, the USA, Ecuador, the Caribbean islands. They have surgery and then spend a few days on vacation,” explained Rosi Oyon, head of a French subsidiary selling silicon breast implants.
Denials that their beauty is anything but natural is par for the course in the beauty pageant world, but for plastic surgeons there was no doubt that Fernandez had a little help.
“I didn’t operate on her, but I am sure that she has had work. They all have,” Daniel Slobodianik, a plastic surgeon who has helped several Venezuelan celebrities better fill out a bikini, said.
Vanessa Brito, a 27-year-old Caracas resident who had breast implants fitted five years ago, explained that surgery was common for women from all walks of life.
“I think there’s a social pressure in Venezuela, a beauty ideal that can be seen in contests like the one for Miss Universe. And seeing that, everyone wants to look the same,” she said.
Laura Gonzalez, a 19-year-old student, agreed. Over the past four years she has had a nose job and breast enlargement.
“This goes beyond the Miss Universe contest. Venezuelan women love to look good. We love to get our hair done, to dress well. A woman needs to feel good about herself, and it’s something that has really influenced me,” she said.
“Venezuelan woman are among the most vain in the world. Beauty is considered a basic necessity,” Arturo Rojas, the head of another breast implant supplier in Venezuela, said.
Girls barely in their teens sometimes receive plastic surgery as a gift from their parents, as in the case of Yudnara, a 13-year-old who made a pre-op trip to a doctor’s office accompanied by her mother.
Even the risk of infection, which can lead to a mastectomy in the case of silicon breast implants, does little to dissuade adolescents from wanting to get plastic surgery done. Breast enlargement surgery is by far the most popular procedure in Venezuela, with an estimated 30,000 breast augmentations carried out each year, according to specialists.
“Mammary prostheses are the backbone of Venezuela’s beauty market,” Oyon said.
In this segment of the market, French-made silicon sacs are considered more reliable and smoother and tend to dominate over rival US, Chinese and Brazilian products. They account for around 80 per cent of the enhanced busts created. For foreigners visiting to improve their neckline, the difference in cost can be significant. In Caracas, breast enlargement goes for around $US2500, compared to several thousands of dollars more in other countries.

Shoaib Akhtar Gets Liposuction
November 30, 2009 | Leave a Comment
Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar will require another three to five months to get back into shape to resume his international cricket career. Far from his peak playing weight, Akhtar underwent liposuction surgery in a desperate bid to fast-track his way to fitness.
The Pakistan fast bowler underwent surgery at a private hospital in Islamabad on Friday, shedding a good amount of fat in the process. Whatever happened to getting into shape the good old fashion way of exercise and eating the right foods.
“He would require three to five months to get fit. Any one going through such surgery needs a proper rehabilitation programme to get fit and ready for the strenuous exercise. Any attempt to make an untimely comeback could further complicate his fitness problems,” said Dr Waqar Ahmad, Deputy Director General Pakistan Sports Board.
Waqar said that Shoaib is already 34. “In such an age, there are always chances of complications. Shoaib has to be careful in order to regain his full strength.”
Dr. Humayun, who the other day while talking to ‘The News’ admitted conducting surgery on the player, said Shoaib had been given general anesthesia for the purpose.
Meanwhile, former Test pacer Sarfraz Nawaz expressed his unhappiness over Shoaib’s decision to reduce the fat through liposuction. “He definitely has taken a wrong step. It is like taking a shortcut to make your body trim and ready. He should have instead tried to reduce the weight and trim his physique through workouts. That way you reduce your weight every day,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is totally in the dark regarding the development and no prior approval has been sought by the bowler who has decided to go through the process. “All the players who are in contract with the board are supposed to take the PCB in confidence before going through any such exercise. In Shoaib’s case we know nothing. However, we are in process of gathering the facts,” said a PCB spokesman.
